Well after a day of resting after our long day on Thursday, we awoke and headed south yet again for a return trip to Crescent Lake. After Rose and I's trip down, we really wanted to take Cody and share it with him. After completing the first goal of getting Cody a Salmon on a fly rod, now it was time to get him his first Grayling!
The day didn't start off well as far as weather was concerned. It was windy and rainy all the way down but we were still optimistic. We arrived at the trailhead and ascended the steep trail. Cody thought it was awesome country and was excited to finally get to see first hand what we've been experiencing. We talked as we walked about random stuff and joked and laughed and had fun. After living in the same house in Corvallis for the last 4 years we both miss having the chance to talk and hang out all the time.
When we arrived at the lake it had cooled off considerably and looked like a storm was rolling in. We ate a sandwhich and changed into our waders. I bought Rose some foot warmers that looked like shoe insoles. She stuck those on and she stayed much warmer this time around! We hiked down to the waters edge and tried to elicit a rise out of a hungry Grayling. Our first spot there were a couple risers and Rose nearly had one as he nipped at her dry fly.
Note she's still holding her pole!
We moved on a ways to where we had had success on our prior trip and there was nothing. We gave it a good long effort and decided to try one more spot and then we'd back it as we were all getting cold and wet. The spot we hit was a raging brook that rushed right into the lake. It dropped straight off into a deep hole. I tossed in a small bead-headed prince nymph and let it drift into the lake and immediately had a fish on! Cody then casted a wooly bugger while I was bringing my fish in and he hooked into a Grayling also! What are the odds of that! We landed our two fish and saved them to eat on our way out.

We went back to fishing and I think Rose caught one next and we had double hook ups several times. It poured on us and we were cold and wet and decided to bag it after catching 22 grayling in about an hour! All of those fish were over 16 inches and some were 18! Trophy grayling no matter where you are.
