In September Riley and I took the 13 hour drive up to the North Slope on the Haul Road. We had a great time and spent about 5 days hunting and 2 days driving. It was my first experience hunting but sadly didn't get a caribou this time up. Here are a couple pictures of our trip.
We happened to be gone on my birthday and Riley started the day with breakfast in bed. Which consisted of a bowl of cereal and instant coffee in the bed of his truck. That night after a full day of hunting he surprised me with cake he had hid in the cooler before we left. There were eve candles to blow out. What an amazing husband he is, he thinks of everything!
To give you an idea of where we went.... see the map below. Starting in Anchorage and driving to Fairbanks in the middle of Alaska is about a 6 hour drive. From Fairbanks to deadhorse is can take anywhere from 7-10 hours depending on construction and road conditions. Deadhorse (prudhoe bay) is about 100 miles North from where we were mainly hunting.

Looking out over the road and the Alaskan Pipeline.
Winter comes pretty early that far North, and even in the middle of September everything was already brown and the day after we left it snowed.
Yeah!! My first kill with my bow! Not such a lucky ptarmigan. We got a couple and cooked them up that night, pretty tasty.
Arctic Circle. The birds seemed to like Riley!
Muskox... how often do you see these?
