Out for another hike

Today Riley and I both had the day off so we headed out for a hike right outside of Anchorage. It was a trail we had seen before so we decided to try it out. The summer here has been very cold and wet. We are setting records for rainfall this summer. The other day we set a record of 0.8 which was previously set in 1912 of 0.5. It has been a very wet first summer here and we are hoping the end of August will bring a little more sunshine before we head in to winter.

About three miles in to the hike Riley suddenly stopped me. It took me a second to see what he stopped for. But about 40 yards in front of us was a Bull Moose grazing. He was right in the middle of the trail but hardly seemed to even notice us as we made our way around him. Another 1/2 mile down the trail we saw a large black beer up on the hill. During the 6 mile hike we saw a total 4 moose. We never go anywhere without our gun for these reasons. When you are that close to a moose or bear it definitely can be a little nerve racking.

  1. Okay Rose, this is going to make you laugh...yesterday we were given a can of salmon and you can not imagine how excited I was! Salmon and carp just do not compare, even if it comes in a can :). Love, Kelly
