Cody, Mitch, & Katie's Visit to Alaska! Part 2

So the next day we made the drive down to the Upper Kenai river to hopefully catch some reds (sockeye salmon). It was actually a very slow day with high water and low visibility. Fishing was tough but we did manage a few fish for the day at the very last stop before the take out.

We were within sight of the takeout and were a bit bummed that fishing had been so poor. I saw some reds jumping and quickly got the boat to shore. I re-rigged some of the rods and switched gears for red fishing. Cody hooked up on one that gave him a good fight but it was turning red so we released it back. Mitch hooked up on a couple but we were unable to land them before they got off. A short while later, Mitch had a good fish on and we were surprised to see that it was infact a nice dolly varden!

Fishing had slowed down and I was hoping someone would get a good red on the line. It was long and Katie had a fish on. It looked to be a good fish and I walked out and helped Katie walk back to the shore while Mitch grabbed the net. It was putting up a good fight for her and we thought she had a nice chrome sockeye but when we netted it, we were really surprised to see another dolly! Katie was very excited and it was a good way to end the day, with everyone atleast catching a fish!

Katie was pumped when we finally got this securely in the net!

With day two at an end, we headed home to get ready for our third leg of the trip!
