It's been a slow start to fishing season this year! We've been out on a number of occasions and caught a couple fish but we're really waiting for fall fishing to really kick into high gear.
I've tried to get a couple friends on the water and tried to get them on some fish but it's been difficult. Rose seems to be showing everyone up! Her fishing skills have really come along and I think she's up on me 3 fish to 1.
One of our first days out my friend Jason came along and it was a tough but beautiful day. Rose caught a couple dollies, I think I struck out completely (must've been since I was busy guiding and rigging rods, right?) and Jason hooked up on a nice dolly right at the very end of the float. We were floating down a side channel and fishing with beads under an indicator. I told Jason to put it in the seam of water where the two channels meet back up. As soon as we hit that seam of water, the indicator went down and said "You Got One!" Right in front of some hardcore fly fisherman too!
So we floated past, pulled into the bank and hopped out. It took a few minutes but we finally were able to net the fish. One of the guys came down and talked with us and I guess he was a guide but was just fishing with his two friends that day. He said it was tough fishing and if he'd had clients that day, he wouldn't know what he'd have done. So that felt good knowing we caught fish.
The next day, Rose and I floated again and I managed to pick up a fish.
Another beautiful day on the Kenai with my best friend!
