Rose and I got up and were ready to go fishing. We drove up north to Sheep Creek which was suppose to be great for trout and grayling. It was a two hour drive and a new friend was suppose to meet us up there at about 10 or 11 and show us around and help us learn it a bit. He was running late and didn't get there till after 1:00. We fished a little while we were waiting and I caught my first Alaskan fish! Man what a hog! The thing took a dry fly right off the surface! Check out the picture below, we couldn't throw him back without a photo!
Anyway, my friend arrived and he cooked up some Caribou hotdogs and a king salmon fillet over a fire before we hit the water. Man was that some good food.
We walked down river a ways and began fishing. He was swinging a hook with a couple eggs on and Rose and I were trying to hook a fish with some flies. Not more than a few minutes of fishing, my friend nailed a huge dollie. I would guess it to be about 20 inches. Rose and I had no luck and had to leave at 4 so she could come home and get to bed, as she has to be to work at 3am. We got a little fishing in and learned that if we were going to fish that particular river, we needed to get some egg patterns for fly-fishing.
We're headed down on Thursday together to hit the Russian River again. The Reds should be coming in good by then. Hopefully I can get Rose a fish.
See, I told you those Alaskan fish were killers! You guys crack me up :) Thanks for posting all these updates with pictures. It looks like you're having a wonderful adventure together, and thoroughly enjoying it!
